Museum 1

Denise Markonish on the concept of landscapes: So how then do we really perceive the landscape in its totality, that vast space too immense to take in all at once?  One way is to treat landscape as a sort of filmic montage; we take in a series of images that coalesce in our minds, constructing a picture much like editing a film.

John Wylie- Landscape is not only something we see, it is also a way of seeing things, a particular way of looking at and picturing the world around us.  Landscapes are not just about what we see but also about how we look.

“The stars are like letters which inscribe themselves at every moment in the sky.  Everything in the world is full of signs.  All events are coordinated.  All things depend on each other; as has been said: ‘Everything breathes together.’” Plotinus

Moving so imperceptibly slow as to appear unmoving, like a glacier or a geological shifting mountain range.- Teresita Fernandez
Turn to the green, gentile, and most docile earth; consider them both, the sea and the land….  For this appalling ocean surrounds the verdant land. _Herman Melville, Moby Dick
