Residency

Residency Program

Spread Art's Residency Program invites local, regional, national and international artists to develop and present work in collaboation with the creative communities of Detroit. Below is a general overview of the program (all residencies are ultimately tailored to the individual artist's needs and interests) and a list of 2014 artists in residence. After reviewing the information, contact us if you have questions, or click here to submit a residency proposal.
Spread Art residencies provide housing, rehearsal and/or studio space, event and/or exhibition opportunities, and introductions to Detroit artists, venues, and more through residency dinners and additional social opportunities.

Spread Art artists in residence stay at either the Hubbard Farms residency house in SW Detroit or the residency apartment at detroit contemporary in Woodbridge. With multiple artists in residence and/or longer stays, whenever possible, residencies include a private bathroom and kitchen, or a full private apartment.
Rehearsal and studio space are generally provided at detroit contemporary, a facility with a fully outfitted 900 sq ft performance space,  3 artist studios (in progress), 150sq ft outdoor stage, 700sq ft gallery, community gardens, 200sq ft outdoor projection area, and more. Spread Art works with each artist in advance to determine what event/exhibition support is needed and can be provided.
Spread Art provides up to 4 fully subsidized (no cost to artists) residencies each year. Additional residencies are partially subsidized, with artists paying a portion of costs through an administrative fee of $150/week or $500/month.
